Supplied Water during drought

The situation in Beed district in Marathawada was heart-rending during the summer of 2016. The helplessness of the people in the face of the fourth drought in the past 6 years was tragic. Thus the priority was to reach water to the thirsty villages. Our team worked with local authorities to supply water tankers free of cost under the project Jal Aadhar 2016. We started the delivery of water tankers on April 27th 2016 with over 10,000 litres of water being supplied to each of more than 25 villages and 35,000-40,000 people every day.

We monitored the delivery of water tankers through local activists, to supply water to these parched lands and try to reach out to as many villages as possible. Through our local activists, social workers and local administration, we created a detailed plan for the deprived villages, along with the population census. By June end, we had supplied a staggering 1.57 crore litres of water to people in this parched district. The funds came from individual donations with many popular faces like Anupam Kher, Kunal Kapoor etc. contributing, crowdfunding funding and social media platforms.

Says Mayank Gandhi, Chief Coordinator Global Parli, “This is just a temporary solution to the issue, we intend to establish sustainable models in the region, to permanently curb such situations from arising in the future.” Over 50 sarpanch of villages, the Tehsildar, the local municipal chairman and other officials came together and vowed to make Parli tanker-free in future and drought-resistant.
